Sri Lanka’s Corrugated Roofing Peak Season Begins: Distributor Secures Five Containers of GI Coils

Sri Lanka’s Corrugated Roofing Peak Season Begins: Distributor Secures Five Containers of GI Coils

2025-05-04

September to February is the high-demand season for corrugated roofing sheets and light-steel construction materials in Sri Lanka. Distributors often stock large volumes of galvanized coils ahead of time to ensure uninterrupted supply. However, many previously imported coils suffered from inconsistent zinc coating, edge cracking, and powder dropping during forming.

To prepare for peak season, a major Colombo-based distributor ordered 5×40HQ containers of Hot Dipped Galvanized Coil (0.11–1.5 mm, widths 1000 / 1220 / 1500 mm). The zinc coating was highly uniform and carefully inspected through salt-spray testing.

The coils were distributed to manufacturers of:

  • Corrugated roofing

  • HVAC ventilation ducts

  • C/Z purlins

  • Rainwater systems

  • Light structural frames

Roll-forming workshops reported excellent ductility and adhesion—no edge cracks, no white rust, and no coating flaking. Within two weeks of arrival, over 70% of the stock had already been sold to downstream processors, demonstrating strong market acceptance.

The distributor noted that the stable GI quality gave them a competitive advantage during the busiest season.
